Another massive disappointment in kansas, as a flat, tired-looking CITY escaped with a point but not the away win the fanbase was finally hoping to see. CITY's goal came off a deflected Edu free kick just before half, but the breakdown we'll be looking at is the equalizer from kansas' Calvin Harris.
Calvin Harris - Goal (55')
A very nice play by Dejan Joveljic to track back on Edelman to start the sequence, as the kansas #9 wins the ball after a heavy touch from Edelman and cleanly bodies him off the ball. The ball finds its way to Emir Karic, who plays a nice 1-2 to Jovelic that ends up on the feet of Taylor Calheira. Calheira turns upfield, and while the initial look shows 3 defenders (MacNaughton, Baumgartl, and Polvara) covering 2 attackers (Harris and Capita), MacNaughton turns his head slightly to look at Calheira, causing him to lose stride with the speedy Harris just as the pass is being made.
Calheira plays a nicely weighted through pass that slips past Timo and beyond the reach of MacNaughton. Harris collects in stride at the top of the box, takes a touch, and bangs in a shot off the post past Bürki. Whether due to a lack of speed, tired legs, or a momentary lapse of focus, MacNaughton was beaten cleanly and Harris was onside (despite the initial referee decision of offsides, which Capita was).
