Player to Watch: Anthony Markanich
Of all former St. Louis CITY players, none have improved their play more after leaving than Anthony Markanich. Once just another spoke in the neverending wheel of left backs in the early days of CITY (with luminaries like Selmir Pidro and Nikolas Dyhr), Markanich has found a home in Minneapolis and been simply outstanding for the Loons, garnering a starting nod for this year's MLS All-Star team. Coming off a 9 goal season in 2025, Markanich is already at 7 goals and 3 assists this season. He's dangerous as a trailing attacker in transition and on the back post, and CITY should be mindful of a player who has as many goals from the left-back position as any CITY player has from any position, save for recent acquisition Rafa Navarro.
