Player to Watch: Denis Bouanga, Forward
During CITY's first 3 years in the league, perhaps no player has tormented St. Louis CITY as much as LAFC forward Denis Bouanga has. Bouanga continued his dominance against St. Louis last season, scoring both goals (including a stoppage-time equalizer) in a 2-2 draw in April and adding another goal in a 3-0 LAFC win in September. Last season's arrival of South Korean superstar Son Heung-Min has given Bouanga even more freedom to utilize his tremendous speed and skill, as opposing defenses can no long solely key on him as the focal point of the LAFC attack. The 31 year old Gabon international, who had been the subject of potential transfer rumors this offseason, signed a multiyear contract extension to stay with LAFC as a Designated Player through 2028 with an option through 2029-30, meaning CITY fans can expect many more challenging matches against truly one of the elite players in MLS. Saturday will be a tall task for a relatively new backline for the boys in red.
