Player to Watch: Anders Dreyer, Midfielder
Since arriving in MLS last season, no player has had a larger impact for his team than Danish DP Anders Dreyer. The 2025 MLS Newcomer of the Year and Best XI Award Winner has been the focal point of the San Diego FC attack since day one. His MVP-level 2025 season featured 19 goals and 19 assists, and he added another 4 goals and 2 assists in 5 playoff matches. Although listed as a midfielder, he most often operates from the wing, where Head Coach Mikey Varas gives him the freedom to roam and find pockets of space on the field from which to operate. While more traditional wingers are typically focused solely on scoring, Dreyer drives the San Diego attack by linking play, drifting into dangerous spaces, and setting up teammates. Coming off of San Diego's 5-0 season-opening win against CF Montréal in which he had 2 assists and an astronomical 8.8 rating, Dreyer shows no signs of a sophomore slump and will be a major test for a largely unproven CITY backline.
